Introduction to Wedding Ceremonies officiated by a celebrant

A wedding is a celebration of love, commitment, and the beginning of a new chapter in a couple's life. While traditions play an important part in many weddings, every couple is unique, and their ceremony should reflect their personal values, beliefs, and love story. This is where a wedding celebrant comes in.

As a professional wedding celebrant, I specialise in crafting personalised ceremonies that are as individual as the couples I work with. Whether you envision a grand ceremony or a small, intimate gathering, my role is to ensure that your day is filled with love, meaning, and memories that will last a lifetime.

What is a wedding Celebrant?

A wedding celebrant is a trained professional who has the experience and creativity to design and conduct weddings that reflect the unique personalities of the couple. Unlike religious ceremonies, celebrants offer complete flexibility in terms of location, structure, and content, allowing you to design a ceremony that feels authentic and true to you.

In order to be legally married and have a celebrant to lead a bespoke celebration, couples will need to be married legally at a register office. They will only need to have the Statutory Wedding Ceremony, with the couple and two witnesses present. The couple will need to book this separately, and each county council do this slightly differently. The statutory ceremony is a very short legal ceremony only, at a cost of £56. Legal details can be found here - Marriages and civil partnerships in England and Wales: Plan your ceremony.

To be married in a bespoke ceremony celebrating your marriage, you only need the statutory ceremony to be conducted, and you do not need the registrar to be present at the celebration led by the celebrant.

Marriage and civil partnerships - West Sussex County Council

As an independent celebrant, we are able to include components for the service from different faiths, cultures and traditions, which the extended register office weddings are not able to do.

Your ceremony day - West Sussex County Council

Once you have been legally married in a statutory wedding ceremony, you also do not need to celebrate your marriage in a licensed venue.

In West Sussex, the statutory ceremony takes place in Crawley once a month and can be booked here: West Sussex Register Office - West Sussex County Council

In Hampshire, the statutory ceremony takes place in Winchester and Portsmouth- couples only need to book and register for the statutory ceremony.

In order to book your statutory ceremony in any county council, please ring their main register office lines and ask for the short statutory ceremony.

Personalised Ceremonies

Every couple is different, and so should be their ceremony. I work closely with couples to understand their relationship, values, and the atmosphere they want to create on their special day.

Whether you prefer a traditional ceremony, a non-religious celebration, or a ceremony with spiritual elements, I’ll help craft a script that speaks to your hearts.
